| I
was born in North Dakota in 1958, lived in Minnesota for a few
years and attended high school in Northern Virginia. While in high
school I was the winner of the Arlington Symphony's Young Soloist
competition and was featured as a soloist with that orchestra
during my senior year in high school performing the first movement
of Ernest Bloch's Suite (1919) for viola and orchestra.
I
attended college at the Peabody Conservatory of Music in
Baltimore, MD studying viola with Karen Tuttle. Another influential
teacher was Jean Eichelberger Ivey with whom I studied electronic music.
In 1977 I was a member of the New York String Orchestra
which meets for two weeks every December for intensive chamber
music and chamber orchestra rehearsals and performances.
In
1980 I accepted a position with the Hong Kong Philharmonic
Orchestra. I stayed with them for four years during which time I
also taught at the Hong Kong Conservatory of Music and was
active in chamber music, composition, and commercial recording.
In
1984 I won a position with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra where I have
worked ever since. I served as principal violist of the NSO from 1989
to 1992. In addition to my duties as a member of the Nashville Symphony,
I am active in the recording industry, I am a composer and arranger, and
I am pursuing a career in free-lance graphic and web design. |
