GC RW Shadowland's Django of Night Sky

Night Sky Bombays are bred for health first, then purr-sonality, and finally looks. However, we do strive for all three!

Our ultimate goal for our cats and kittens is that they find good homes.

For us breeding is an expensive hobby and not a business. We do not make a profit. The cost of kittens is to help stave off some expenses.

We do not sell kittens less than fourteen weeks old.

All kittens and cats are sold with health and genetics guarantees.

All of our cats and kittens are sold spayed and neutered, except a few that go to breeders who have similar standards to ours.

We do not falsify pedigrees. We do not fudge on birthdates. We are up front with our customers as to problems a cat might have.

We like to keep in touch with our kitten buyers. Customers are encouraged to email us with any questions they may have. We have the NightSkyBombays email list and we send Christmas cards annually

The health of our cats is more important than showing. If a queen is due to have a litter of kittens near a show weekend, we stay home. If there is illness in the cattery, we stay home.

Whether to cage kittens or not is a controversial matter. Most kitten buyers think that babies are better socialized if they are raised underfoot. On the other hand, authorities recommend that litters be kept separate, to insure the kittens be more healthy, as they are not exposed to whatever adults are carrying or other litters may be shedding. In an effort to have the best of both worlds, we cage the kittens when they are little and let them be underfoot, when they are mostly weaned and use the litter box faithfully.

All of our cats, whether Bombays or Household Pets, get the same veterinary care and high quality food.

Because we feel that a stud deserves to have most of his life spent as a lap cat and not in a cage, we neuter him at a fairly young age. Likewise, we do not over breed our queens. When to spay them depends on the queen. The oldest we allow our girls to remain whole is five years, but most are altered before then.

Because we do not want to become collectors, we have set a maximum number of cats we can handle. When we approach that number, someone must be altered and placed, before we keep one of our kittens or get a cat from another cattery.

We will mentor new people, but we expect them to listen to the advice of several mentors, preferably show a cat in Premiership, and read recommended literature, until they are experienced enough to be on their own.
