HANSON

Hans Hanson, Sr. and Mari Einarsdattter Hougesveen emmigrated from the Gulbransdal valley around Skabu in Norway in 1867 with four children; Marit, Johannes, Hans Jr., and Mari. Two of Hans' brothers also emmigrated at that time, Paul and Johanne. Hans and his family settled in Webster Co. Iowa around Callendar. The family legend that I recently found out about says that Hans Sr. committed suicide in a Fort Dodge, Iowa hotel after a night of heavy drinking. In one version he was caught in the company of a "lady of the evening" by his brother and did not want to disgrace his family. The fact is that he was not buried in the family plot either because of the cause of his death or because of his reputation as a heavy drinker.

Hans Hans, Jr. married Anna Johannesdatter Byrlokken.
