Family legend tells that John James Hatton was born in 1817 in Ireland and came over to the USA as a cabin boy. No records have been found to back up this piece of history. The Hatton name appears to be English in origin so why was John James born in Ireland? What is known is that John James Hatton settled in Harrison County, Missouri and was living there by 1845. He lived there until his death in 1872. Much of this information was provided by Sarah Cooper, a newly found distant relative!

OTHER HATTON LINES
Ruben Hatton, b. 1758, served in the Revolutionary War. Some of his ancestors ended up in Boone Co., MO. Samuel Hatton, b. 1749, came to America from Ireland as a cabin boy also. The similarity in the story makes me hope that this is a common family line and a link will be discovered one day. Gilbert Hatton has done quite a bit of research on Samuel's son, Asa, and has a website. Another line descends from John William Hatton, b. 1790. A line that appears to have stayed in England descends from Sir Christopher Hatton, who was the Captain of the Guard to Henry VIII.
