My Murff line of the family is the most thoroughly researched. Two distant relatives, Thelma Johnson and Ruth Menhel, have toiled many long hours to prepare the data that I have access to.

HANS JACOB MURFF

Hans Jacob Murff was born in Switzerland in the 1700s. Other variations of his name are Johanne Morff or Murph. He married Elizabeth Schellenberger and emmigrated about 1743 from Bassersdorff, Switzerland to Orangeburg, South Carolina. He and Elizabeth had at least six children.

OTHER MURFF LINES

My line of Murff is descendants of the son of Hans Jacob, John Murff, Sr. I have been in contact with several people who descend from a Randolph S. Murff, b. 12/2/1784. The Randolph Murff line originated in Laurens Co., SC and many descendants ended up in Texas. Another Murff line descends from William Murff, b. 1811 is SC. Descendants from this line ended up in Texas as well. A line of Murffs in Tennessee descend from Uriah Murff, b. abt 1805 in SC. Since all of the Murff lines have been traced back to South Carolina, I hope to someday tie all of the Murffs together.

JOHN AND SOPHIA KINSLER MURFF FAMILY


John Murff, Sr. served in the militia during the Revolutionary War in 1781 and 1782 as a Private. This is verified in the "Stub Entried to Indents - Salley, Vol. 2, p. 242".
