The Holy Spirit in the OT was:
- An outside influence on men empowering
them for special tasks, such as communicating the word of
the Lord to the people, to conquer enemies facing
overwhelming odds, or to perform miracles of God.
Examples are:
- Samson ( Judges 14:6,19, 15:14 )
- Gideon ( Judges 6:34 )
- David ( I Samuel 16:13 )
The Holy Spirit in the NT
- God dwelling in his adopted family through
His Spirit, guiding, empowering and instructing from the
mind and heart of his people within.
Examples are:
- Jesus ( Luke 4:1-2, 10:21 )
- Stephen ( Acts 7:55-56 )
- Philip ( Acts 8:28-29 )
- Peter ( Acts 10:9-27 )
- Paul ( Acts 18:9-10, 20:22-24 )
What the Holy Spirit is NOT!
- A tongue
- A "person"
- Signs and wonders
- A denomination
- Ours to manipulate
What the Holy Spirit IS!
- A comforter ( comforts, befriends,
councils, mediates for us )
- A guide
- A teacher
- A source for God to channel His power
through
