Living (Walking) in the Spirit   (Galatians 5:16-18, 25)

 

 

Live by the Spirit -- present tense  "go on living in the Spirit"

Keep in step with the Spirit (vs. 25)  "keep up with or stay even with" allow the Spirit to set the pace.

 

 

1) Understand the work of the Holy Spirit (John 14:15-18 / 16:7-16)

 

Romans 8:2  "The law of the Spirit of life"  or The law of the Holy Spirit. Contrast this to the law of sin and death, or the law of legalism. A walk in the Spirit is freedom, legalism and laws produces bondage. (Gal. 5:1)

 

The Holy Spirit is:

A)  counselor ---- a lawyer or advocate

B)  comforter ---- to comfort and bear burdens

C) Spirit of Truth --- to reveal and guide into truth

 

The Holy Spirit also:

A) convicts of sin and guilt ( lit.expose the guilt of the world)

B) convicts of righteousness

C) convicts of judgment

 

 

 

2) Yield to the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:5-15)

 

A) Have mind made up to follow God.(vs 5) (Romans 12:2)

B) Be controlled by the Spirit (vs 9) (Romans 6:11-14)

C) Be obligated to God (vs 12) (Gal 5:2-7)   The obligation of the new covenant and it's principals of son ship not servant hood.

 

 

3) Be full of the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:15-20)

 

A) Filled, or intoxicated with the Spirit (Acts 2:1-4,12-13)

 

  1 Thess. 5:12-22 

    vs 19 "do not extinguish the Spirit's fire" or "do not hinder the moving of the Spirit"

    vs 20 "do not treat prophecies with contempt or scorn"

    vs 21 "test the validity of all the above"

    vs 21 "hold on to the good, reject the bad"
