The Peace of God

  1. The only true peace is a gift from God to us through Jesus Christ.  Unlike false peace or worldly peace, or any other man made peace this is Gods peace that He freely gives to us.

A)    Isaiah 9:6

“For to us a child is born, to us a child is given: and the government

shall be on his shoulders. And he will be called Mighty God Everlasting Father,

                Prince of peace”

B)     Ephesians 2:14-18

“For He Himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the  dividing wall of hostility, by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations.  His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two thus making peace, and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross ,by which he put to death their  hostility. He came to preach peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near.  For through him we both have access to the Father by one spirit

           C)  Luke 2:14

“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, and goodwill toward men.

2.  Though sin destroyed the original peace we had with God, he sent his Son Jesus to restore it.

A)    Isaiah 53:5

“But He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities, the punishment that brought up peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.

  3.  The peace that God sent is not a worldly peace, which can be only tempory, but and everlasting peace.

A)    John 14:27

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give you.  I do not give to you as the world gives.  Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid

  1. The peace of God comes as a result of faith and trust.

      A) Philippians 4:4-9

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice let your gentleness be evident to all.  The Lord is near.  Do not be anxious about anything but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving; present your request to God.  And the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your heart and your mind in Christ Jesus.

 5.  When Paul admonishes the Philippians to focus on what is true, honorable, right, lovely, of good repute and praiseworthy, he is speaking of God’s word, not ourselves or our good works.  If we keep our minds on Christ and his words his peace will be ours.

A)    Isaiah 26:3

“You will keep him in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trust in you.
