About Membership
Recently, there was a article in the Atlanta Constitution about Christianity in the year 2000. It said there were thousands of denominations in the world, all claiming to have THE message of Christ. Each one claimed the Bible as it's source and truth it's basis. Each one had different methods of: baptism, communion, salvation and different theology on heaven, hell, Jesus, the trinity, the endtimes, et. You wonder who is right? Paul addressed the question of denominations in 1 Cor. 3:3-8. Paul said the Corinthians were acting worldly when they started to form sects. One was the Apollos sect, another the Paul sect, still another the Peter sect! These were groups formed around the teaching and doctrine of the ones they were named after. Keep this in mind when one says they are Luthern (Luther), one is Calvinist (Calvin), one is Methodist (Wesley), one is Catholic, one is ....ect.! This is the same principal, dividing Christ's body into factions instead of unifying it.
Jesus said "upon this rock (the confession of Christ as the Son of God) I will build my church (singular). There is only one church, the body of Christ. In this one church, you do not join it, you are born into it. "Joining" a church has no biblical basis and should not be required. Home churches do not recognize these splits, therefore they do not require one to "join" a membership roll. |
