Ronnie Glenn Newman, 55, of Woodbury, died July 27 at Georgia Baptist Meriwether Hospital in Warm Springs. Funeral services were held July 29 at Woodbury Baptist Church with the Reverend Drew Corbett officiating. Interment was at Meriwether Memory Gardens.  

 

Pallbearers were Marty Newman, Alton Halliday, Jeffrey Fowler, Charles Hatchett, Carey Owens, and Mike McDaniel. Honorary pallbearers were Charles Walls, Marion Connell, Don Fuller, Wayne Brisendine, Drewry Head, Frank McRae, Jr., Lonnie Bowles and Guy Dawson.          

 

Mr. Newman was born May 19, 1947 in Meriwether County, son of Mrs. Mildred Lucille McRae Newman and the late Harris B. Newman. He was plant manager for Durand Wayland Co., Inc. and a member of Woodbury Baptist Church where he served as an usher.       

 

Survivors include his wife, Elaine Albritton Newman of Woodbury; mother and step-father, Glen M. and  Mildred Newman Fowler of Manchester; one son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Melisa Newman of Havelock, North Carolina; one daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Bobby Bishop of Manchester, one brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Erlene Newman, also of Manchester; grandchildren, Trent Bishop, Trevor Bishop and Tia Marie Newman; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Harris B. Newman.

Funeral services for Mrs. Willie Rochelle Copeland were held August 1 at New Hope Baptist Church in Manchester with Reverend J. D. Walker officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.          

 

Mrs. Copeland was born September 20, 1910, daughter of the late Elder and Lucy Owens-Brown. She joined New Hope Baptist Church in 1936 and remained faithful until recent illness prevented her attendance.           

 

Survivors include two daughters, Pearlie Bell (Jerry) Holt of Manchester and Lucy Mae Williams of Atlanta; three sisters, E’Willie Brown, Carrie Copeland and Sarah (George) Bulloch, all of  Boston, Massachusetts; one brother, James Brown of Manchester; two sisters-in-law, Eliza Brown of LaGrange, and Betty Brown of Boston; nine grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; special friends, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Watkins of Manchester and Mrs. Sarah Hendricks of Auburn, Alabama; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Mrs. Linda Rae Holloway, 54, of Warm Springs died July 28. Graveside services were held at the family cemetery August 1 with Reverend Eugene Striblin officiating. Pallbearers were Jerry Roland, Jr., Leonard Roland, John Roland, Robert Shirling, Jr., Jason Evans and Edward Holloway, Jr.   Mrs. Holloway was born March 13, 1948 in Robbinsville, NC. She was a cook for Ivy on Broad Street Restaurant and was a Baptist.   

 

Survivors include her mother, June H. Hardin of Robbinsville, NC; husband, Floyd Holloway of Warm Springs; one son, Timothy Orr of Gainesville, Florida; two brothers, Jeff Hardin and Chris Hardin, both of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; five sisters, Doris Shell of Mervcille, Tennessee; Carol Phillips of Hayesville, North Carolina, Tommie Wiggins of Robbinsville, North Carolina, Lisa Crisp of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Liz Williams of Robbinsville.

Chester lanier horton

August 2, 2002

 

Chester “Chet” Lanier Horton, 40, of Thomaston, died August 2 at his residence. Funeral services were held August 5 at Cathedral of Saint Michael’s in Thomaston with Bishop John Holloway officiating. Burial was at Upson Memorial Gardens.           

 

Mr. Horton was born in Fulton County. He worked at Sacks Route One in Warm Spring and had also work at the Hotel Warm Springs. He was an ordained minister and a member of St. Luke CEC in Manchester.      

 

Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Miriam Horton of Thomaston; stepfather, Jean Bergevin; also of Thomaston; one sister, Mrs. Aimee Hill  of Thomaston; brother-in-law, Deacon Marion Hill of Thomaston; god-sister, Hannah Grace Holloway,; three nephews and one niece. Donations in memory of Mr. Horton may be made to St. Luke CEC in Manchester.

James edward anderson

July 12, 1935 – July 25, 2002     

 

James Edward Anderson, 67, of Albany, died June 25. Funeral services were held July 30 at New Hope Baptist Church in Manchester with Reverend Ed Harris officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. 

 

Mr. Anderson was born July 12, 1935, son of Mrs. Rochelle Anderson and the late Henry Anderson. He graduated from Austin High School in Knoxville, Tennessee and from Tuskegee University in 1962 with a BS degree in nutrition. He retired from the United States Navy in 1995.      

 

Survivors include his wife, Lena Anderson of Tuskegee, Alabama; one daughter, Kimberly Anderson of Phoenix, Arizona; one son, Keith Anderson of Japan; his mother, Rochelle Anderson of Cleveland, Ohio; two brothers, Henry Anderson of Cleveland and Richard Anderson of  Knoxville, Tennessee; one sister, Sarah Anderson of Cleveland; one uncle, William Chaney of Manchester; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

DAVID RAYMOND KENNEDY

April 26, 1955 – July 24, 2002    

 

David Raymond Kennedy, 47, of Junction City, died July 24 at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus. Funeral services were held July 29 at Geneva Baptist Church with Reverend Lynn McManius officiating. Burial was in Geneva City Cemetery with Jim Parker, Kenney Harbuck, Dick Olive, Tom Zwaga, Terry Fuller and Alfred Cannington serving as pallbearers.      

 

Mr. Kennedy was born April 26, 1955 in San Bernardino County, California, son of Mrs. Shirley Cook Kennedy Insley and the late Keith Wilmer Kennedy. He was an electrician at Goody Products in Manchester and a member at Geneva Baptist Church.           

 

Survivors include his mother, Shirley C. Insley of Junction City; three daughters, Kimberly Michelle Kennedy of Augusta, Tiffany Sue Kennedy of Butler and Jessica Gail Kennedy of Waverly Hall; one sister, Valda Jean Colson of Columbia, South Carolina; one granddaughter, Brittany Alysa Deal; several aunt, uncles and cousins.

MRS. ANN BROWN-CHENAULT

1936-2002        

 

Mrs. Ann Brown-Chenault died August 1, while attending the funeral of her oldest aunt. Funeral services were conducted August 6 at New Hope Baptist Church with the Reverend J. D. Walker officiating. The eulogist was the Reverend E. L. Jones.           

 

Mrs. Chenault graduated valedictorian of her graduating class at Woodland High School in Woodland. She later studied at Atlanta Area Tech and DeKalb College focusing in the area of Administration. These studies played a major role in her being promoted to Lead Inspector at TIG Hitco Industries of Atlanta. She retired from Hitco in August 1999 after thirty faithful years of service.           

 

Survivors include her husband, Eddie Chenault; two daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie (Deborah) Gilbert and Jan (Stacy Howard) Ballard; two sons, Mr. and Mrs. Steven (Monica) Ballard and Morrio Mitchum; two sisters, Rev. and Mrs. Eddie (Shirley) Jones and Margaret Brown; two brothers, Rev. and Mrs. David F. (Coretta) Brown and Mr. and Mrs. Eugene (Edna) Brown; two sisters-in-law, Leila Brown and Juanita C. Brown; ten grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Charlene R. “Te Te” Crowder, 92, of Manchester, died August 7 at Riverside Nursing Home in Thomaston. Graveside services were held at Warm Springs City Cemetery August 9 with the Reverend Jimmie Chapman officiating.      

 

Mrs. Crowder was born September 9, 1909 in Havana, Cuba, daughter of the late Juan Jose Rodrigues Y Usupe and the late Elena Travieso Y Lopez. She was a retired dance instructor and a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. 

 

Survivors include several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Winfried “Bone” Crowder.

Mrs. Ludie Mae “Udda Mama” Watson, 78, of Manchester, died August 11 at The Medical Center in Columbus. Graveside Services were held August 13 at Meriwether Memory Gardens with the Reverend Jerome Stallings officiating. Pallbearers were Scott Neely, Steve McGraw, Michael Dunn, Cooter Waller, Lamar Oglesby, Jeremy Hendricks, Ernest Braddy and Jeff Stallings.          

 

Mrs. Watson was born December 24, 1923 in Harris County, daughter of the late William Chester McGraw and the late Sara Alma Cato McGraw. She was a retired textile worker in the spinning department.

 

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Jack and Claudette Neely of Manchester; sister, Ruth Stalling of Thomaston; brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Ann McGraw of Mobile, Alabama; grandchildren Tracy and Tim Hayes, Kelly and Larry Young; great grandchildren, Honour Hayes, Misty and Michael Dunn, and Jordan Young. Mrs. Watson was preceded in death by her husband, Theron Eugene Watson and great grandchildren, Trish and Wes Hayes.

Mrs. Mary Sue Rollins Barnes, 94, of Manchester, died August 17 at Riverside Nursing Home in Thomaston. Funeral services were held August 18 at Macedonia Baptist Church with the Reverend Charles Johnson, her former pastor officiating, assisted by the Reverend John Simmons. Burial was at Meriwether Memory Gardens with Eric Johnson, Mike Mitchell, Johnny McCall, James Gresham, Howard Johnsa and Don Deville serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Macedonia Baptist Church. Mrs. Barnes was born April 28, 1908 in Meriwether County, daughter of the late Ed and Mary Eliza Self Rollins. She was a homemaker and was the widow of William Barnes, Sr. Mrs. Barnes was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church where she was active in WMU, kept the church nursery and taught Vacation Bible School for many years.           

 

Survivors include two daughters, Marcelle Fucity of Seneca, South Carolina and Mary Johnsa of Woodstock; two sons, William Barnes, Jr. of Peachtree City and Jack Barnes of Manchester; three sisters, Audrey Willingham of Manchester, Racheal Brown of Thomaston and Nell McCall of Shiloh; two brothers, Ulyses Rollins and Jack Rollins, both of Manchester; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Mrs. Barnes was preceded in death by a daughter, Alma Saunders.

WILLIE FLOYD BUNKLEY

Funeral services for Willie Floyd Bunkley were held August 15 at Valley Grove Baptist Church with the Reverend Jimmie Copeland officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.       

 

Mr. Bunkley was the son of Mrs. Bertha Bunkley of Manchester and the late Roosevelt Bunkley, Sr. He received his education in the Meriwether County schools and earned the Miller Wright Degree in 1970 in Detroit, Michigan. He joined Mount Sinai CME Church at an early age and retired from General Motors in 1970.  He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.   

 

Survivors include his wife, Mary Frances Britt Bunkley; two sons, Anthony LaBoyd Bunkley and David Jerome Bunkley of Detroit, Michigan; his mother, Mrs. Bertha Bunkley of Manchester; four sisters, Thelma Ford of Albany, Mary Frances Anderson of Manchester; Peggy Ann Mason of Atlanta and Barbara Elaine Russell of College Park; two brothers, John L. Bunkley of Detroit and James W. Bunkley of Atlanta; two sisters-in-law, Fay Bunkley of Detroit and Anita S. Donald Nelson Fowler, 79, of Manchester, died August 18 at his residence. Funeral services were held August 20 at West End Baptist Church with the Reverend Kyle Woodfin officiating, assisted by the Reverend Ricky Lipp. Burial was at Meriwether Memory Gardens.        

 

Pallbearers were Jonathon Fowler, Barron Fowler, Joe Hathaway, Heath Worsley, Mike Giershner and Fred Goolsby. Honorary pallbearers were Fred Self, Mike Roland, Glenn Fowler, Richard Meadows, Hamp Morgan, Chester Lamb and Homer Shelly.  

 

Mr. Fowler was born December 11, 1922 in Meriwether County, son of the late John Ernest Fowler and the late Dovie Pearl Melton Fowler. He was a retired clerk operator for the CSX Railroad, was an Army veteran having served during World War II and the Korean Conflict, was the Commander of V.F.W. Post 4670 and was a member of West End Baptist Church.    

 

Survivors include his wife, Willene Meadows Fowler of Manchester; one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Mark O’Neal, also of Manchester; one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Elizabeth Fowler of Douglasville; one sister, Giecia Fowler of Manchester; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

William Howard Snelson, 65, of Woodbury, died August 12 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. Funeral services were held August 15 at the Chapel of Smith-Steele-Meadows Funeral Home on Woodbury with the Reverend Jimmy Bowden officiating. Burial was at Harris City Cemetery.      

 

Pallbearers were James McGraw, Buck Shaw, R.L. James, Marvin Peugh, Lamar Brown and Chris Kempson. Honorary pallbearers were Henry Chastain, Wallace Massengale, Bowman Brown, Larry Brown, Bobby Melton and Sonny Moreland.           

 

Mr. Snelson was born January 14, 1937 in Meriwether County, son of the late Howard Abner Snelson and the late Lucille Hutchinson Snelson. He was retired from C.S.X. wrecker crew and as a machine engineer for Durand Wayland. Mr. Snelson was a member of Harris City Baptist Church.    

 

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Jerry Brown and Debra and Eddie Gravley, both of Woodbury; one brother and sister-in-law, John and Gail Snelson of Odessa, Florida; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Harry Lundy Fineran, Jr., 91, died August 10 at Muscogee Manor in Columbus. Interment was at Maple Grove Cemetery in Cleves, Ohio.   

 

Mr. Fineran was born July 20, 1911 in Addyston, Ohio, a son of Harry Fineran, Sr., and Anna Ammons Fineran. He retired from Cincinnati Gas & Electric Company. Preceding him in death was his wife, Norma Welsh Fineran.           

 

Survivors are his sons, George William Fineran of LaGrange and Robert L. Fineran of Chicago, Illinois; six grandchildren, Cynthia Fineran of McKinney, Texas, Dr. Daryl Fineran of Jesup, Melanie Thomas of Columbus, Cheryl Campo, Robbie Fineran and Lori Williams of the Chicago area; four great grandchildren, Noah and Ethan Williams, Alyssa Thomas and Mitchell Fineran; former daughters-in-law, Janet Fineran of Naperville, Illinois and Charlene Fineran of Manchester.

Karl “Homer” Erenheim, 68, of Box Springs, died August 12 at his residence.      

 

Mr. Erenheim was born May 15, 1934 in Manchester to the late Henry and Lilly Thompson Erenheim. He was a retired union glazier and served in the United States Air Force.           

 

Survivors include his wife, Frances Holmes Erenheim of Box Springs; son, Karl “Bud” Erenheim, Jr. of Gaithersburg, Maryland; sisters, Marie Bulloch of Manchester, Marion Payne of Warm Springs, Margie Reid of Manchester, Katherine “Kitty” Stone of Manchester and Carol E. Buchanan of Woodland; brother, Frank “Nick” Erenheim of Waverly Hall; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

STEPHEN RONALD LACKEY

DR. GEORGE EDWARD WOLFE, SR.

Dr. George Edward Wolfe, Sr., 82, of Warm Springs, died August 24 at Upson Regional Hospital in Thomaston. Memorial services were held August 26 at First Baptist Church in Manchester with the Reverend Ralph Norman officiating, according to Cox Funeral Home, Manchester.           

 

Dr. Wolfe was born December 13, 1919 in Cleves, Ohio, son of Sara and William Wolfe. He was the retired owner of Wolfe Pharmacy in Manchester. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia, and served in the U.S. Army where he later retired as a Lt. Colonel with the Army reserves. Dr. Wolfe was a member of First Baptist Church, Panama City, Florida and former member of First Baptist Church, Manchester. He was a Director Emeritus with the Farmer and Merchants Bank, Manchester.           

 

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Carolyn Wolfe of Warm Springs; a son, George E. Wolfe, Jr. of Reno, Nevada; a sister, Ida Carl of Lawrenceville, Ohio; a grandson, Bill (Suzanne) Hardaway of Woodland; two great-grandsons, R.J. Gipaya and Luke Wolfe Hardaway, both of Woodland.

MRS. CODA KIMBROUGH

Mrs. Coda Kimbrough, 86, passed away August 15 at her home. Funeral services were held August 20 at Greentown Heights Church of Christ in Manchester with Brother Roger Brawner officiating. Interment was in Pine View in Shiloh.    

 

Mrs. Kimbrough was born June 8, 1916 in Talbotton, daughter of the late Willie Beach and the late Ms. Leila Henon. She joined the Church of Christ at an early age under the leadership of Brother Lucius Barner where she served faithfully until her death.           

 

Survivors include four daughters, Ms. Carrie B. Holmes of New Mexico, Mrs. Jannie Prather (Ernest) of Hamilton, Ohio, Mrs. Fannie Riggins (Bobby) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Mattie K. Atwaters of Thomaston; one brother-in-law, Josh Gray, Jr.; one sister-in-law, Ms. Sallie K. Holmes of Hamilton, Ohio; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and three special friends, Christine Waller, Christine Lowe and Madeline Stratford. One sister, Mrs. Minnie Gray, preceded her in death.           

 

Anderson & Marshall Funeral Home of Manchester was in charge of arrangements.
