Both Marja and Devin Holmes died September 21 from injuries substained in an automobile accident. Memorial services were held September 25 at new Birth Ministries in Lithonia. Funeral services were held September 27 at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church in Columbus.
Marja was the daughter of Simmie and Betty Jean Harper, who presently reside in Columbus. Marja moved to Atlanta and lived a fulfilling life with family and friends.
Devin Anthony Holmes was born February 28, 1998 to very proud parents, Dale and Marja Holmes. He had a very lasting impact on anyone he often encountered.
They both leave to mourn a devoted husband and father, Dale Holmes; a loving son and brother, Devon Holmes; parents/grandfather and mother, Simmie and Betty Harper of Columbus, father/mother-in-law/grandparents, Marvin and Geraldine Holmes of Manchester; sister-in-law/auntie Sophia Lewis (Gary) and Felicia Holmes; brother-in-law/uncle Cornelius Holmes; nephew/cousin Archie Chappell III; niece/cousin Alexis Lewis; and many more uncles, aunties, cousins and loving family members and friends.

Joseph Leroy Garrett, II, 73 of Warm Springs, died September 25 at his residence. Funeral services were held September 29 at Faith Baptist Church with the Reverend Jimmy Bowden officiating.
Burial was at Mt. Hope Church Cemetery with Jessie Garrett, Danny Garrett, Charles Goodwin, Joey Topper, Jimmy Phillips, and Sammy Phillips serving as pallbearers.
Mr. Garrett was born March 23, 1928 in Forsyth County, son of the late Joseph L. Garrett, I and the late Elisabeth Alva Mitchell Garrett.
He was a retired truck driver for Georgia Department of Transportation and attended Faith Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Temples Garret of Warm Springs; five sons, Ed Garrett, also of Warm Springs, Joe Garrett of Pelham, Al Garrett and Danny Garrett, both of Spokane, Washington, and Cliff Garrett of Manchester; one daughter, Martha Goodwin of Warm Springs; one stepdaughter, Lois Dukes of Smiths Station, Alabama; four sisters, Lois Phillips of Warm Springs, Ruth Welch of Pensacola, Florida, Dorothy Malouin of Warm Springs, and Mary Goss of Chiefland, Florida; 18 grandchildren; six great grandchildren.

William Randall Lynch, 63, of Warm Springs, died September 28 at his residence. Funeral services were conducted September 30 at Smith-Steele-Meadows Chapel with the Reverend Jimmy Chapman officiating. Burial was at Woodlawn Cemetery in Perry, Florida on October 1.
Mr. Lynch was born February 21, 1938 in Taylor County, Florida, son of the late Grady and Mildred Lynch. He retired as a locomotive engineer with CSX Railroad, was a veteran of the US Marine Corps, and was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
Survivors include four sisters, Dean Price of Shiloh, Nell Stegall of Tampa, Florida, Jackie Lynch of Perry, Florida and Dorma Wray Bishop of Savannah; one brother, James Elwyn Lynch of Perry, Florida; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Gladys Buchanan McRae, 87, of LaGrange, formerly of Manchester, died September 24 at her home.
Funeral services were held at St. James United Methodist Church September 27 with the Reverend Richard Campbell, pastor of St. James United Methodist Church of Manchester, officiating.
Burial followed at Manchester City Cemetery with Todd McRae, Blair Smith, Ike Rayburn, and Brent Smith serving as pallbearers.
Mrs. McRae was born May 4, 1914 in Phenix City, Alabama, daughter of the late Della McPhearson Buchanan and the late James Edward McRae.
She retired from Playtex International after 25 years, was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, was the past Matron of Stephens Chapter #339 Order of the Eastern Star, and the widow of Fred Edward McRae.
Survivors include two daughters, Sybil Rayburn of LaGrange, and Sheryl Smith of Alpharetta; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Dale Edward McRae.

Memorial services for Mrs. Lula Revell, 83, of Warm Springs were held October 7 from the Chapel of Harpers Funeral Home, Manchester.
Mrs. Revell died October 2 at Georgia Baptist Memorial Meriwether Nursing Home. She was a lifelong resident of Meriwether County and a member of the William Chapel C.M.E. Church of Warm Springs.
Survivors include a host of cousins, including Eugene Revell of Chicago, Stella Revell, Edzick Revell, Tomika Revell, all of Manchester, and Starris (Tarma) Revell of Newnan.

Mrs. Shirley Daniel Carpenter, 64, of Woodbury, died October 6 at Upson Regional Medical Center. Graveside services were conducted October 8 at Crystal Hill Cemetery in Thomaston, with Reverend Scotty Fowler officiating.
Mrs. Carpenter was born in Newton County, but lived most of her life in Meriwether County. She worked for Nabisco as a lab assistant and was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Woodbury.
Survivors include four sons, Donnie Hicks and Warren Storey, both of Thomaston, and Robbie Hicks and Archie Storey, both of Woodbury; one brother, Ronnie Daniel of Panama City, Florida; one sister, Mrs. Sarah Buchanan of Woodbury; one daughter, Ms. Melinda Payne, also of Woodbury; 15 grandchildren; three great grandchildren.

Mr. Williams, a native of Calhoun County, passed away from injuries substained in an automobile accident. He had lived most of his life in Clay County, was a US Army Veteran, was employed with Midway Transit, was a former conductor for CSX Transportation and was a member of Good Hope Delta Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Kelly Larissa Williams and Suzy Williams, both of Ashland; his mother, Gladys Williams of Delta; two sisters, Patricia Hunt of Manchester, and Janice Holland of Oxford; one niece, Lisa Brookshire and one nephew, Kelly Holland.

D. FRANK ANDREWS, JR.

David Frank Andrews, Jr., 80, resident of Pensacola, Florida and husband of Mary Vail Andrews, died September 26 in the hospital.
Born in Abbeville, South Carolina on December 25, 1920, he was the elder son of David Frank Andrews and Ruby Wages Andrews. He graduated from Abbeville High School, attended the Citadel, and graduated from the US Merchant Marine Academy in 1944. Commissioned an officer in the US Navy, he served primarily in the Asian/Pacific theatre during World War II as chief engineer aboard the USS Tazewell (APA-209), attaining the rank of Lieutenant (jg). Along with his shipmates, he received the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star. He was honorable discharged from active duty but continued service in the Navy Reserve and subsequently in the South Carolina National Guard until 1950.
Upon reentering civilian life, he married. He and his wife Mary celebrated 54 years of marriage on May 4, 2001. Mr. Andrews was an employee of Seaboard Coastline Railroad for 35 years. His railroad career began as a locomotive fireman and engineer. Appointed a supervisory officer of the railroad, Andrews was road Foreman of Engines in Atlanta from 1964-75. He then became Trainmaster for the Georgia-Alabama division until his retirement in 1981.
He was elected to the City Council of Warm Springs in 1987 and remained in that office until his resignation in June 1999. Mr. Andrews was a 32 degree Mason and was a member of the Scottish Rite as well as the Yaarab Temple in Atlanta. He remained an active member of the United Methodist Church. He also served on the Georgia Governors Council on Drug and Alcohol Abuse. He relocated to Pensacola in 1999.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son David Frank Andrews III of Pensacola, and brother Robert Andrews of Rocky Mount, North Carolina. His sister, Tina Andrews Mann, preceded him in death.
Ashes will be interred in Barrancas National Cemetery. Arrangements will be made through Faith Chapel, 100 Beverly Parkway.
Memorial may be made to the Salvation Army and the American Red Cross.

Mrs. Betty M. McGraw, 70, of Manchester, passed away October 5 at Columbus Hospice House in Columbus. Funeral services were conducted October 7 at Machester First Baptist Church with Reverend J.D. Templeton officiating, assisted by Reverend Tim Twilley.
Burial was at Meriwether Memory Gardens with Billy Jiles, Ricky Jiles, Dan Strickland, Billy Heath, Allen Scoggins, and David Lyle serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were member of Manchester Kiwanis Club, M.H.S. girls softball team, parents, students and former students of Little Bo Peep Nursery.
Mrs. McGraw was born January 4, 1931 in Coweta County, daughter of Mrs. Effie Mae Smith Hunter and the late William "Buck" Head. She was the founder and co-owner of Little Bo Peep Nursery, and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Effie M. Hunter of Columbus; three daughters, Elaine Neal of Manchester, Patsy Brown of Box Springs, and Vicki Joiner of Albany; three sons, Perry Bridges of Olathe, Kansas, Billy McGraw of Warm Springs and Todd McGraw of Manchester; one sister, Charlotte Scoggins of Columbus; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren.

Eredapa Green Longjohn, MD, 40 of Nigeria, died August 30 at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. Funeral services were conducted October 6 at Valley Grove Baptist Church in Manchester (TX) with Reverend Jimmie Copeland officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Dr. Longjohn was born February 15, 1961 in Nigeria, daughter of Sofiri Green of Nigeria and Ruth Jackson Green of Shiloh. She was reared in Nigeria. Era (as she was called by family) attended church regularly, and carried her Bible daily in her handbag.
She served as a medical doctor at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital for 14 years. Through her years of service, she was dedicated, kind, and well respected by her colleagues and patients.
Survivors include her husband, Adango Longjohn of Nigeria; four daughters, Ruth Awalayne, Isuala, Amieshia and Boma, all of Nigeria; a loving father, Sofiri Green of Nigeria; a loving mother, Ruth Jackson Green of Shiloh; four sisters, Amoni S. Peterside of Nigeria, Felicia Green of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Mina Hart of Chicago, Illinois, Tumini Green and Peter Hart of Chicago, Illinois; and host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were Donald Massey, Herman Ward, James Faulkner, Alvin Moody, Earl Pressley and Danny Hosey.
Mr. Teal was born June 13, 1922 in Meriwether County, son of the late Walter Pope Teal and the late Cora Izora Bishop Teal. He was a carpenter and had worked at the old Callaway Mills. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Chalybeate.
Survivors include a son, Asie William Teal of Manchester; one daughter, Martha Jan Ivey of Phenix City, Alabama; three sisters, Jesse B. Faulkner and Annie Mae Hosey, both of Manchester, and Mildred Franklin of West Point; 11 grandchildren; five great grandchildren.

Mr. Jones was born August 10, 1945 in Fort Valley, son of Bertha Caffe. H e joined the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church at an early age, the later joined the Leverette Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include his mother, Bertha Caffe of Miami, Florida; his wife, Margaret Jones of Atlanta; two daughters, Chaka Howe and Shiakita (Steven) Branford, both of Warm Springs; four sons, Joshua Lee Jones of Warm Springs, Benson Lee Jones, Eric Jones and Carlos Jones, all of Manchester; four sisters, Eddie Washington and Stephina Davis, both of Miami, Priscilla Mobley (Anthony) of Melvin, Tennessee, Tammie Fletcher (David) of Texas; one brother, Ralph Jones (Dianne), of Warm Springs; one stepbrother, William Darling (Bernice); a special cousin, Bertha Mahone of Manchester; seven grandchildren; a host of nephews, nieces and other relatives. He had three special friends, Doug Febry, Jack Parks and Calvin Parks. A son, Henry Lee White, preceded him in death.

Mr. Bloodworth was born March 25, 1928 in Taylor County, son of the late Charlie B. and Essie B. Moncrief Bloodworth. He was a retired auto mechanic, was a US Army veteran, having served during the Korean War, and was a member of Pritchett Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Jeff Bloodworth of Manchester; two daughters, Wanda Ray of Shiloh and Stephanie Jarrard of Cleveland; four sisters, Mae Dent, Irene Watkins, and Faye James, all of Thomaston, and Jewell Sanders of Roberta; five brothers, Alva Bloodworth of Meansville, Terrell Bloodworth and Fred Bloodworth, both of Thomaston, Clifford Bloodworth of Rex, and Ellis Bloodworth of Whitley City, Kentucky; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wives, Virginia Shelley Bloodworth and Rhunette Rodgers Bloodworth.

Mrs. Moyers was born December 25, 1920 in Hapeville, daughter of the late Julius C. and Eliza Arrendale Roberts. She was a retired secretary for the USDA inspectors at the State Farmers Market in Forest Park.
Survivors include a sister, Bernice Quinn of St. Petersburg, Florida; three brothers, J.C. "Cotton" Roberts of Warm Springs, Fred Roberts of Tucker, and Bill Roberts of Warm Springs; several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Mary Will Mitcham, 86, of the Durand Community died at her home on October 22. Graveside services were held October 24 at the Trinity United Methodist Church Cemetery. Reverend Gene Davis, her pastor and Reverend Hugh M. Grubb officiated.
Mrs. Mitcham was born October 27, 1914 in the Durand Community, daughter of the late Maxie LaFayette and Dura Key Fowler. She was a retired second grade teacher at Warm Springs Elementary School and a Title I Reading Instructor. She was a member of the Retired Teachers of Meriwether County Association and a volunteer with the Meriwether County Heart Association. Mrs. Mitcham was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was a former church treasurer. She was the widow of Henry Crowder Mitcham, Sr.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Henry C. and Betty Mitcham, Jr., and William Daniel and Mary Anne Mitchem; grandchildren, Henry (Link) and Cheryl Mitcham, III, Tonya and Jeff Mitcham Cain, Jonathan Daniel Mitcham and Keith Crowder Mitcham; great grandchildren, Katherine Chambless Cain and Emily Glenn Cain, all of the Durand Community.

Mr. Roberts, a fighter pilot in World War II, was the recipient of the Distringuished Flying Cross Award.
Survivors include his wife, Lucile McBrayer Roberts; children, Claudia Lee Parlow of Memphis, Tennessee, David Wayne Roberts of Atlanta, James F. Roberts, Jr. Of Richland; sister and brothers, Bernice Quinn of St. Petersburg, Florida, Bill Roberts of Hampton, and Cotton Roberts of Warm Springs; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Roberts died one day after the passing of his sister, Mrs. Virginia Roberts Moyers of Warm Springs.

Mrs. Grace Sammons, 74, of Rex, passed away October 23 after an extended illness. Funeral services were held October 27 from Pope Dickson & Son Morrow Chapel with the Reverends Ed Stewart and Pete Lumpkins officiating. Interment followed at Sherwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Sammons was retired from E.I. DuPont and from U.S. Customs and was a longtime member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Jonesboro.
Survivors include her daughter, Sharyn Phillips of Stockbridge; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Shelly Sammons of McDonough; grandsons, Randall McCord of Stockbridge, Trey Sewell of McDonough and Matthew Sammons/McGowan of England; granddaughters, Kristie Spinks (husband Erik) of Locust Grove and Joanna Sammons/McGowan of England; great grandson, Jacob Spinks; sister Joyce and Ben Busbin of Winterville; brother, Harvey and Betty Argroves of Manchester; and several nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones. Her husband, Leon H. Sammons, preceded her in death.

JIMMY D. NESMITH
September 5, 1919 - October 23, 2001
Jimmy D. NeSmith, 82, of Manchester, died October 23 at his home. Graveside services were held October 25 at Meriwether Memory Gardens, according to Cox Funeral Home of Manchester. Reverend Jimmy Bowden of Faith Baptist Church, Woodbury officiated.
Honorary pallbearers were George Wolfe, Jerry Moncrief, Ted Stewart, M.B. Guy, Frank Ruzucki, Dick Erwin, Buddy NeSmith, Lee Lipscomb, Jimmy Dean, M.A. Waldrop, Tony Waldo and Henry Thomas.
Mr. NeSmith was born September 5, 1919 in Bleckley County, the son of Mittie Shelton NeSmith and John D. NeSmith. He was a retired banks and had served as president at banks in Warm Springs and Luthersville. Mr. NeSmith was a Captain in the Air Force during the Korean War, and served three terms in the Georgia House of Representatives. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Manchester.
He was the widower of Polly S. NeSmith and is survived by two daughters, Nancy (Johnny) Williamson of Woodbury, and Paula NeSmith of Manchester; two grandchildren, Kasey and Robert Conner, both of Manchester; one brother W. Doyle NeSmith of Lyons; and an uncle, A. Newell NeSmith of Cochran.
Contributions in memory of Mr. NeSmith may be made to Hospice LaGrange of Faith Baptist Church in Woodbury.
