Jeffery King (Pap) Johnson, 48, of Shiloh, died August 24 at his residence. Funeral services were conducted August 29 at St. Paul C.M.E. in Shiloh with the Rev. William Searcy officiating.   

 

Mr. Johnson was born May 14, 1954 in Talbot County, son of the late John and Adrine Johnson.   

 

Survivors include six sisters, Mattie Johnson of Manchester, Rosa (Earnest) Jarrett, Virginia (Willie) Hamler, Dorothy (Charlie) Deloach, Wyvonia Johnson, all of Shiloh, Elaine (Jimmy) Traylor of Atlanta; one brother, Stanley Johnson of Manchester; eight nieces, Valarie, Brenda, Phoenix, Tyrnesa, Wanda, Beverly, Cynthia, and April; seven nephews, Ricky, Marvin, Earnest, William, Vernon, Lavictor, and Justine; one very special cousin, Sylvester Johnson; a host of cousins, aunts,uncles and friends.

Levi Campbell, Sr.

July 6, 1952August 22, 2002  

 

Levi (Polly) Campbell, Sr., 50, died August 22 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange. Funeral Services were held August 27 at Pilgrim Rest Baptist church in Raleigh with Rev. Leo McCrary officiating.   

 

Mr. Campbell was born July 6, 1952 in Meriwether County, son of Corine Campbell and the late Leon Campbell. He joined Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church at an early age and worked for the City of Manchester for 26 years. 

 

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Shirlene Campbell of Manchester; three  children, Levi Campbell, Jr., Tereyon Campbell and Cheryl Morris, all of Manchester; his mother, Ms. Corine Campbell of Manchester; daughter, LaShundra (Frank) Gray, also of Manchester; two sisters, Mrs. Betty (Robert) Hamler of Warm Springs, and Mrs. Catherine (Greg) Willis of Columbus; one brother, Leon Campbell of Manchester; one aunt, Ms. Christine Lowe of Manchester; one sister, Ms. Marie Morris of Manchester; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and two special friends, Macker Strickling and Vincent Terry. He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Ms. Yvonne Gray of Manchester.

Edgar Miller Chambless

February 9, 1938 – August 29, 2002       

 

Edgar Miller Chambless, 64, of Woodbury, died August 29 at his home. Funeral services were held September 2 at Woodbury Baptist Church with Dr. Charlz McDonald and Rev. Drew Corbett officiating. Burial was in the Woodbury Cemetery.      

 

Mr. Chambless was born February 9, 1938 in Dawson, the son of the late Edgar M. Chambless, Sr., and the late Daphne Cantrell Chambless. He was the owner of  Pine Mountain Industries in Woodbury, was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves, a graduate of University of Delaware and was a former officer of the Atlanta Kennel Club, also serving as a judge for many years.  

 

Survivors include his wife, Dianne Chambless of Woodbury; daughter and son-in-law, Christy and Rob Liedberg of Marietta; son, Michael Chambless; two stepsons, Norman Wilson and Neal Wilson, both of Woodbury; two stepdaughters, Angela Wilson of Woodbury and Lisa and Paul Overstreet of Ft. Polk, LA; sister, Ann Chambless of Dawson; three grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.

Wilbur Mitchell

August 31, 2002           

 

Graveside services for Mr. Wilbur Mitchell, 96, of Rt. 1, Cochran, who died Saturday, August 31, 2002 in Pineview Health Care Center, were held at 3 p.m. Monday, September 2 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Lanier Beasley and Rev. Alan Mitchell officiating.    Mr. Mitchell was born in Fayette County, the son of the late Lon and Lu McElwaney Mitchell. He was married to the late Annie Marie Chapman Mitchell for 70 years. He moved to Manchester in 1925 and worked for Callaway Textile Mills until 1960. Then he went to work for the Peerless Division of Thomaston Mills until retirement in 1972. he and his family moved to Molena in 1996. In 1997, they moved to Cary. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Cary. He was an avid bird hunter and bird dog trainer, having raised and trained many prize-winning bird dogs.      

 

Survivors include a son, Rev. Alan Mitchell of Cary; daughter-in-law Carolyn C. Mitchell of Cary; granddaughter Terri (Johnny) McClendon of Macon; great grandson Jacob Mitchell McClendon of Macon; one sister, Vainnie Lu Mitchell Norton of Atlanta; one niece, Nell Bolt of McDonough. 

 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, Rt. 1, Cochran, GA 31014.           

 

Honorary pallbearers were Deacons of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.

Mrs. Mary Frances Renaud

June 23, 1924 – September 2, 2002        

 

Mrs. Mary Frances Culpepper Renaud, 78, of Talbotton died September 2 at the residence of her daughter, Juliette Parr. Funeral  services were held at Manchester Church of the Nazarene September 5th with the Rev. Joe Lennon officiating. Burial was at the Culpepper family cemetery in Talbot County. Pallbearers were Clifford Waller, Billy Joe Waller, Roy Waller, Tony Lee, Joey Wells and Buddy Emfinger.   

 

Mrs. Renaud was born June 23, 1924 in Talbot County, daughter of the late Clifford and Lucille Allene Sullivan Culpepper. She was a retired beautician and was a member of Oakland Baptist Church.   Survivors include three daughters, Lovie Renaud of Dallas, Texas, Juliette Parr of Warm Springs, and Toni Cross of Houston, Texas; two sons, Romeo L. Renaud and T. Renaud, both of Talbotton; one sister, Florene Dawkins of Columbus; 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Mrs. Renaud was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Storey.         

 

Donations in memory of Mrs. Renaud may be made to Hospice LaGrange.

Mrs. Vernessa Terry Clark

Mrs. Vernessa Terry Clark, 42, died September 1. Funeral services were held September 5 at Valley Grove Baptist Church in Manchester. The Rev. Jimmie Copeland, pastor, officiated. Pallbearers were Willie Terry, Tyrice Terry, Calvin Mitchell, Charles Terry, Eric Gamble, and Nathaniel Williams.      

 

Mrs. Clark was born March 15, 1960, daughter of the late Mrs. Bertha Evonne Terry and Willie Joe Terry. She was a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church where she faithfully attended until her death.      

 

Survivors include her husband, Willie Clark; children, Rodrick Terry, Kenneth (Seanda) Hodo, Arkee (Sharon) Terry, Tobias Terry, Darryl Sander, all of Manchester; Christopher Gates of Tennessee, Victoria Gates of Tennessee and Yvonne Hounter of Atlanta; two grandchildren; Ke’Asyah Aaliyah Hodo of Manchester and Tanker Gates of Tennesse; mother-in-law, Mrs. Viola (John) Nellon; three sisters, Vickey (Calvin) Terry, Patricia (Robert) Terry, both of Manchester and Tammy Massengale of Hogansville; four brothers, Charles (Gayle) Terry, Willie (Stella) Terry, Eric (Tywanda) Gamble, all of Manchester, and Willie James Terry of SC; three sisters-in-law, Leavelle Norwood of Whitesville, Kathey and Sherika Nellon, both of LaGrange; one brother-in-law, Amos (Mary Jo) Clark of LaGrange; two aunts, Mrs. Betty (Clarence) Copeland of Manchester and Fannie Mae (Homer) Williams of Warm Springs; six uncles, Willie Henry Hunt and Wesley (Irene) Hunt, all of Manchester, Aaron (Youlanda) Hunt of Columbus, Jim (Earlene) Hunt of Newnan, Oscar (Judy) Parham of Miami, Fla., James Parham of Manchester; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Two sons preceded her in death, Carlos James Terry and Willie D. Clark.

Ms. Deanna Chapman Carter

April 30, 1937 – September 6, 2002       

 

Mrs. Deanna Chapman Carter, 65, of LaGrange, died September 6 at West Georgia Medical Center. Graveside services were held September 9 at the Meriwether Memory Gardens, Manchester.       

 

Ms. Carter was born April 30, 1937 in Manchester, the daughter of Charles J. Chapman, Sr. and Violet Mason Chapman. She was the office manager of Gas, Inc. in LaGrange and a member of the Big Springs United Methodist Church.       

 

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Allen and Vickie Teall of LaGrange; three grandsons, Andrew Teall, Evan Teall and Ethan Teall, all of LaGrange; one sister, Emily Clark of Marietta; one brother, Charles J. Chapman, Jr. of Broussard, La., a nephew, Tony Clark and his children, Jayme and Devin Clark, all of Cartersville.

Mrs. Gail Ann Bryan

March 31, 1967 – September 8 , 2002    

 

Mrs. Gail Ann Bryan, 35, of Greenville, died September 8 at her residence. Funeral services were held September 12 at Harmony Church of the Nazarene with Reverend Eugene Wiseman officiating, assisted by Reverend Jim Dunn. Burial was at the church cemetery.    

 

Pallbearers were Bruce Hill, Jodey Bell, Bo Whittington, Billy Buchanan, Jim Kimball and Ricky Batchelor. Honorary pallbearers were William Bryan, Ricky Bryan, Sr., James Bryan, Chris May and Ricky Bryan, Jr. 

 

Mrs. Bryan was born March 31, 1967 in Forsyth, daughter of Clinton Thomas Whittington and Patricia Ann Floyd Whittington. She had worked as a secretary for May Trucking Co. in Greenville and attended Harmony Church of the Nazarene.         

 

Survivors include her husband, Mike Bryan of Greenville; four sons, Chris, James, J.R., and Chase, all of Greenville; two daughters, Amanda and Rebecca, also of Greenville; four brothers, Mike Whittington of Manchester, Jimmy Whittington and Tommy Whittington, both of Atlanta, and Lawrence Whittington, also of Manchester; one sister, Barbara Whittington, of Greenville.

Richard Floyd Perry, 77, of Manchester, died September 10 at Columbus Hospice. Graveside services were held September 13 at Meriwether Memory Gardens with Reverend Craig Williamson officiating.       Pallbearers were Sam Bulloch, Jr., Carter Bulloch, Luke Gill, Jr., Gene Bartlett, Larry Norris, and Vernon Mitcham. Honorary pallbearers were  M.B. Guy, Jr., Robert Hubbard, W.K. Wilson, George NeSmith, Greg Hale, Rufus Burford, C.F. Abernathy, and James McCurdy.         

 

Mr. Perry was born in DeKalb County, son of the late James Boyd Perry and the late Ollie Lee Mauck Perry. He was retired from Georgia State Patrol, was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was a Baptist.          

 

Survivors include his wife, Louise C. Perry of Manchester; brother and sister-in-law William L. and Jean Perry of Jonesboro; grandsons, Dr. Landon S. Perry and Daniel Perry; great grandchild, Ryan Perry; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Dr. Richard W. Perry.

Drue Coxwell Streetman

Drue Coxwell Streetman, 83, of Manchester, died September 9 at Hospice LaGrange. Funeral services were held September 12 at Trinity Baptist Church with the Reverend Jimmie Chapman officiating.        

 

Mr. Streetman was born August 27, 1919, son of the late John and Verlie Beatrice Coxwell Streetman. He was a retired truck driver with Transport Co. & Gas Co., was a veteran of the U.S. Army and Air Force and was a recipient of the Purple Heart.           

 

Survivors include his wife, Margaret A. (Hancock) Streetman of Manchester; three daughters, Glenda A. Luke of Warm Springs, Sandra Lee Streetman of Manchester and Marjorie Verlie Yeargin of Dana, Ind; one brother, Dewey Streetman of Blountstown, Fla.; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Mrs. Lucy Mae Weaver

Mrs. Lucy Mae Weaver, 61, died September 11. Funeral services were held September 16 at New Hope Baptist Church in Manchester with the Reverend Wallace Steed officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.  Mrs. Weaver was born November 24, 1940, daughter of the late Amos Reeves and Emma Lee Reeves. She joined the New Hope Baptist Church at an early age and was employed by Goody Products for 30 years.

 

Survivors include one daughters, Greta Weaver of Manchester; one son, Jeffrey Stinson of Warm Springs; five grandchildren, T’kayah Weaver, Latavus Weaver, Kyle Weaver, Jasmine Stinson and Jeffrey Stinson, all of Manchester; her mother, Emma Lee Reeves of Manchester; two sisters, Mattie Holmes and Grace Steed, both of Manchester; three brothers, Larry Reeves of Manchester, Frank and Raymond Reeves of Tampa, Fla.; one aunt, Exie Mae King of Manchester; a cousin, Emma “Sue” Walton of Manchester; three sisters-in-law, Corine Campbell and Christine Lowe, both of Manchester, and Juliet Hall of Atlanta; three nieces, Alice Steed of Columbus, Muriel Holmes of Atlanta and Valrica Reeves of Tampa, Fla; a nephew, Michael Holmes of Columbus; a host of relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Weaver, Jr.

Mrs. Fay Smith Bray, 89, of Manchester, died September 16 at her resident. Funeral services were held September 17 at Manchester First Baptist Church with the Reverend Malcolm Davis officiating, assisted by the Reverend Craig Williamson. Burial followed at Manchester City Cemetery.   

 

Pallbearers were Johnny McDowell, Mike Sweatnam, Robert Kellum, Dr. J.W. Smith, Robert Allen, Bruce Burt, David Rice and Bobby Dorman.     

 

Mrs. Bray was born October 18, 1912 in Coweta County, daughter of the late Otis and Fanny Haney Smith. She was a homemaker and was a member of Manchester First Baptist Church.       

 

Survivors include two sons, Claude Bray of Manchester and Charlie Bray of Willacoochee; one sister, Gene S. Wilson of Grantville; grandchildren, Brad Bray, Claudia Bray Stevens, Carolyn Bray Lin, Chas Bray, Cavan Bray and Casey Bray; great grandchildren, Justin Andrew Bray, Brinkley Ann Bray, Colton Slade Bray Stevens, Sailor Ann Irwin Stevens, Carolyn Ann (Callie) Bray-Linn, Rickey Linn, and Jason Linn; her best friend, Catherine Elaine McFelters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude A. Bray, Sr., a brother, O.E. Smith, and a sister, Jewell, McCullough.

Orvie “Neal” West, 63, of Box Springs died September 16 at Sumter Regional Hospital. Funeral Mass was said September 19 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Father Ron Madden officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus. The Rosary was at the funeral home.

 

Mr. West was born October 5, 1938 in Warrick, the son of Lucy Fambro West Bonner and the lat Charles West. He had lived  in Box Springs for the past 21 years and was Catholic by faith. Mr. West was employed with Plains Products in the maintenance department.          

 

Survivors include his wife, Betty West of Box Springs; his mother and step-father, Lucy and Charles Bonner of Manchester; two sons, Ken West of Box Springs and Todd West of Mauk; one daughter, Jean West of Columbus; one sister, Patsy Daniels of Manchester, four grandchildren, Amanda West of Columbus, Ashley West of Mauk, Brandon and April Hardin of Columbus; and one great grandchild, Cain Potts of Columbus. He was preceded in death by a brother, Farrell West.

Turner Howard Stewart

September 22, 2002      

 

Turner Howard Stewart, 73, of Gray died September 22 in a local hospital. Funeral services were held September 24 in the Chapel of Bridges Funeral Home, with burial at Middle Georgia Memory Gardens. Reverend Jeff Morrow and Reverend Bobby Thompson officiated.      

 

Mr. Stewart was born in Laurens County and had lived in Jones County for the past 50 years. He was the son of the late John Thurman Stewart and Annie Mae Turner Stewart. Mr. Stewart was a retired truck driver for John Walker, Inc. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lucille Stewart.      

 

Survivors include his children, Ray Stewart of Macon, Steven Stewart of Woodbury, Claire and Ray Crews of Macon and Mary Ann Stewart of Macon; a brother, Leonard Stewart of Macon; sisters, Inez Smith of Albemarle, North Carolina and Clara Burch of Macon; grandchildren, Wesley and Heather Crews, Jonathan Crews, Brandon and Michele Crews, all of Macon, Melandie and John Ogletree of Ringgold and Steven Williams of Woodbury; four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
