Damon
Fowler at House of Blues July 14 & 29, 2000 I first became aware of Damon Fowler about two years ago when he opened for Robin Trower at the House of Blues here in Orlando, Florida. Since then he has gained opening spots for Jeff Beck (filling in for an ailing Johnny Lang) and Johnny Winter where he got rave reviews from the people who attended the show plus the local press, who generally rip opening bands to shreds on general principle. This kid is fairly young, twenty years old, but has eight years of playing behind him and has been noticed and aided by such people as Rick Derringer, who produced and played on his first CD. A friend of mine saw him for the first time a couple of days ago and said that "The main act had better be darn good if Damon Fowler is opening for him" and another friend of mine felt that he put on a better show that the headliner at the House of Blues. The kid is good! He show a maturity in his playing that a lot of young guitar players don't have. You see a lot of dynamics on stage, from song selection to changes during songs. He can rip killer leads and then drop the intensity down to pull out some really cool soulful licks using his volume control to great effect. Murf highly recommends that you check him out if he is in your area. Also pick up his CD, which is a couple of years old now but still worth buying. You can get it at www.damonfowler.com where you can check out his tour dates and more information on this excellent player. Damon is currently finishing up his second independent release and is expected to have it ready before the end of 2000. [Scroll down for
