The topslide feedscrew nut fits through a hole in
the casting and is held in place with a setscrew (Figure 1). The nut
can move up and down vertically in its' hole to mate with the feedscrew. Unfortunately,
when the feedscrew plate is installed so the nut height can be adjusted,
the setscrew is hidden behind the plate!! Instead of using the trial
and error method, I modified the plate to allow access. The plate has
a dial indicator mark on both the top and bottom, so I cut the boss off the
bottom, and filed a notch to clear the setscrew (Figures 2 and 3).
