William McConnell was born in PA or Ohio but moved to Indiana prior to 1830 (1850 census says Ohio, 1880 census says PA). The 1850 census shows that he then lived in Elkhart County, Ind with wife Abigail, sons James and Wilson and daughter Mary Jane. Daughter Maria was born in 1850, apparently after the census was taken. William was listed as a farmer with $3,000 net assets.
By about 1870, William, Abigail and at least three of the children had moved to Pierson, Michigan. In 1880 William and Abigail are living in Pierson Michigan near all their children. Abigail died in 1884, and in 1885 William went to live with James McConnell and family in McMinnville, TN(per letter from Lois McConnell to Mary Jane Marine). It is not known if he remained with them until his death in 1894. But he and Abigail are both buried in the Pierson Cemetery.

This John McConnell married Sarah Jefferies in Elkhart, Co. Indiana at about the same time as several of the other children of Wilson were married.
CGO's records show that John died in Independence, Kansas. This is one of the very few time she was wrong. John and family actually lived in Jasper, County, Iowa from sometime before 1860 until his death in 1874.
