38. Joseph MCCONNELL (Wilson , Wilson ) was born on 27 Mar 1849 in LaGrange Indiana. He died about 1929 in Independence, Mo.
Joseph and Amanda appear in the 1880 census for Lagrange Co., IN. Daughter Ella is age 1. There is a George Charks age 4 in the household who is shown as a step-son. Apparently this was Amanda's second marriage.
In 1891 sons Lester and John Alvin contracted diptheria and died within a day of each other.
Joseph and family were living in Lagrange County Indiana at the time of the 1900 census. He is shown to be a farmer. In the late fall of 1900, they moved to Washington County, Idaho along with a friend and son-in-law, Issac McMannanay and children Ella, Corliss and Tressie. They homesteaded on Weiser Flat where Joseph planted an apple orchard. He built a home and soon decided that he could make more money drilling wells for water, which in fact he did and was successful.
Amanda's mother died and she went back to Indiana for the burial. She inherited a large sum of money and gave it all away to her children and grandchildren, each getting about $500.
Joseph and Amanda were Latter Day Saints and in 1919 word came that Jesus was to come to Independence, Mo. They packed up and moved to Mo. Needless to say, Jesus didn't show but Joseph and Amanda stayed there until he died in 1929. Amanda then moved to Portland, Ore to be close to her daughter Ella. There she lived with Alice Kerslake, her grandaughter and then her daughter Tressie who had moved to Portland.
Joseph married Amanda Catherine HORNER/HOERNER on 4 Dec 1877 in Lagrange, IN. Amanda was born in Mar 1849 in Ohio. She died in 1940 in Portland, Ore.
Amanda's parents were Issac and Catherine (Stiver) Hoerner/Horner.

Charles and Lizzie lived on the old McConnell homeplace in Elkhart, Indiana according to the records of one researcher. According to another, they did not live in Elkhart but instead lived at Emma Lake in Lagrange, Co IN where they built a farmhouse and ice house. In the winter they would cut ice from the lake and store it for use.
Charles married Elizabeth (Lizzie) WARNER on 18 Apr 1885 in Emma, Lagrange Ind. Elizabeth was born on 7 Mar 1864 in Lagrange, IN.
