54. William Josiah (Will) MCCONNELL (James , William , Wilson ) was born in 1875 in Pierson, Michigan. He died in 1945 in Battle Creek, Tn.
The only birth certificate for a William McConnell born in 1875 in Pierson, Michigan gives the father as James McConnell (born Indiana) and Sue McConnell (born Michigan). I don't know if this is an error or if James had a wife prior to Lois. There is certainly no hint of another wife in any of our family records.
Will operated a sawmill on Battlecreek along with his sons. He had a dry wit which was inherited by my father, Claude.
William married Ollie Belle WALLACE, daughter of James Calvin WALLACE and Sally Burdou ANDERSON. Ollie was born in 1888 in White County, TN. She died in 1957 in Battle Creek, Tn.
Ollie Bell's father was J.C Wallace born Aug 1844 (TN) and her mother was Sarlia(?) born May 1850(MISS). The Wallace's had 8 children, three of whom are listed in the 1900 census..B.(son b. 1878), Rosia A.(b. 1885) and Ollie Bell. All of the parents of J.C. and his wife were born in TN. J.C was shown as a farmer in that census.
William and Ollie had the following children:
+ 137 M i Claude Emmit MCCONNELL + 138 M ii William Clyde MCCONNELL + 139 M iii James Calvin MCCONNELL + 140 F iv Maude Ida MCCONNELL
56. Edison Lee MCCONNELL (James , William , Wilson ) was born on 18 May 1896 in Kentucky. He died on 25 Aug 1924 in Battle Creek, Tn and was buried in Gilliam Cemetery-Battle Creek.
Both Edison and Amanda died shortly after daughter Dorothy was born. Dorothy was adopted by her aunt and uncle ( William Josiah and Ollie Belle).
Death date per article In Jasper Journal. Tombstone says d. 1923 (transcribed by J. Leonard Raulston)
Edison married Amanda TANNER, daughter of Brice R. TANNER and Alice FULFER. Amanda was born on 5 Dec 1896 in Marion County, Tenn. She died on 5 Dec 1925 in Battle Creek, Tn and was buried in Gilliam Cemetery-Battle Creek.
Amanda was the daughter of Brice and Alice Tanner. Both parents were born in Tennessee. Brice Tanner was born about 1870 and his wife Alice about 1875. Alice apparently died shortly after 1900. Brice then married Kizzie (last name unknown). Amanda's siblings were Joseph (b. abt. 1893), Fannie (b. abt. 1895), James B. (b. abt. 1899) and Lillie (b. abt. 1901). Brice and Kizzie had at least two children - Gracia (b. abt. 1905) and Ora B. (b. abt. 1908).
Brice and family lived in the 4th district of Marion Co, TN in 1900 and 1910.
Amanda's date of death is per an article in the Jasper Journal. Tombstone says d. 1926 (transcription by J. Leonard Raulston).
Edison and Amanda had the following children:
+ 141 F i Dorothy MCCONNELL
57. Myra MCCONNELL (James , William , Wilson ) was born in 1880 in Pierson, Mich. She died in 1937 in Chattanooga, TN.
Myra resided in Chattanooga, Tn. According to an article in the Jasper Journal, her full name was Myra Berry Williams Harper. I do not know if that means she had three different husbands or what. She is buried in the Gilliam Cemetery on Battle Creek, Tn. Her tombstone gives her date of birth as 1882 but she was 3 months old when the 1880 census was taken in June 1880. This just proves that women can hide their age until the end - and even beyond the end. But they pay the price that their tombstone may be incorrect.
All decendents of Myra are per CGO.
Myra married BERRY. BERRY died unknown.
They had the following children:
+ 142 M i Everett BERRY
58. Blanche MCCONNELL (James , William , Wilson ) was born in 1883 in Pierson, Michigan. She died in Spencer, TN.

Blanche married William Henry PERRY, son of William Taylor PERRY and Rebecca C. SMITH, on 18 Nov 1900 in Warren Co., TN. William was born on 1 Apr 1879 in Prob Warren Co, TN. He died on 10 Oct 1970 in Sparta, TN.

In the 1930 census, Henry's wife is shown as Annie ??? but she has the same birthdate as Blanch. Blanch was still alive in 1946 and living in Spencer Tennessee. She is listed in William J. McConnell's obituary as Mrs. W. H. Perry.
William and Blanche had the following children:
143 F i Gertrude PERRY was born about 1904 in Marion or Warren Co, TN. She died unknown.

60. Grace MCCONNELL (Wilson , William , Wilson ) was born about 1879 in Pierson, Michigan. She died on 27 Oct 1960 in Portland, Oregon.
In the 1880 census for Montcalm Co, MI, Pierson, page 294, Grace is listed as Lola. I do not know if this was her middle name. In the later 1900 census, Van Buren Co., TN, 2nd Dist, page 13, Grace is listed as a male. In both census records her mother Mollie is listed as Mary, but we know her name was Mollie both from Grace's records and the marriage documented in Montcalm, Co., Michigan. Both the 1920 and 1930 census records indicate that Grace was born about 1888-89. I have not been able to resolve these conflicts.
There is a marriage listed for Grace McConnell on April 20, 1907 in Multnomah, Co, Oregon (Portland). Unfortunately this index does not show who the groom is. I believe that son David was born shortly thereafter. There is a Social Security record for a David Osborn born Sept 28, 1907 (d. 8/23/1996 in Portland). David does not appear in either the 1920 or 1930 census in the Osborn household.
From the census records it appears that Grace and Earl were divorced sometime between 1920 and 1930. Grace is working as a clerk in a real estate office. In 1920 and 1930 the family is living on Siskiyou Street in Portland near the Rose City Golf course. Wilson is shown working as a caddy there in 1930. Earl (Sr.) was apparently a traveling salesman again per the census records. In 1930 he is living in a bording house in Portland.
Grace married Earl OSBORN. Earl was born about 1889 in Illinois. He died in Portland, Ore.
