When Cecil and Nettie got married, they turned a buggy barn that was across the road from the farmhouse on the lake into a place to live. Forest, Lucille and John were all born in this house. Then they moved to Middlebury on a farm and farmed shares. Dorothy was bor there. Then they moved to Goshen and Cecil started a grocery store on Middlebury Street. They bought a house across the street and Helen and Willis were born there.
As the children grew older they bought a house on 7th Street, a block from the first house. Cecil built a store onto the end of the house. During the Depression, he gave all the neighbors credit and finally he had to close the business due to lack of money. He went to work at the old bag factory, and then worked for Ross Booker as a plumber and then found a job working for the Indiana State Highway Department. He had to move to a house on US 20 so that he was near his job. They kept the road clean from Middlebury to Lagrange.
In the 1930's Cecil and Nettie moved back to Emma and lived in the farmhouse that was Charles and Lizzie's. Lizzie had died and Charles lived with Cecil and Nettie on the farm until he passed away.
Cecil married Nettie Jane DUKES on 14 Aug 1912 in Cosperville, Lagrange Co, IN. Nettie was born on 4 Jan 1896 in Lagrange, IN. She died on 3 Dec 1986 in Goshen, In and was buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Goshen, IN.
